Atlantic to Med. Bike Tour Aug. 2012 Page 1

This was another attempt at failed 2010 Anglet - Girona Tour.  Following car trip to france earlier this year using Somport Pass as entry to Spain it was totally unsuitable for cycling due to the heavy commercial traffic. The decision to use Col du Pourtlet put another 20K on distance and at 1790 mtrs was a bigger challenge but safer.

Getting there required a hire car and 780 km drive to Irun on Spanish / French border. Short train ride to Henadaye and another 30 mins train to Bayonne and start of cycle tour. Weather on Day 1 was perfect cloudy 28ª. Following days were hot with no clouds. Apart from first day every day had long drags until final day with Col de Allia before Tarragona.

Apart from Bayonne ( minus 3 star) accomodation was good at E 30 night.
