THE ROADS TO SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA
Camino Vezelay (FRANCE) 2nd. to 10th.September 2014
Vezelay to St.Jean de Port ( last years start of Camino Frances) seem to be the obvious continuation pilgrimage route to cycle this year.
The trip took 8 1/2 days and a distance of 850 Kms., about the same as St. Jean Pied de Port to Fisterra (2013)
The terrain was mostly flat...ish . Really nice cycling country, little traffic, great weather.
Noticable on this camino is the lack of pilgrims, I think many take the more southerly route or Start in Paris on Northerly route which joins Camino Vezelay
Getting to start in start in Vezelay is not easy Bus from Altea to Valencia, Plane to Bauvais Paris, 2 hr. transfer to Paris, 1hr metro to Paris Bercy train station, 3 1/2 gr train to Sermineas, 11km. from Vezelay.
Acomodation along route was great by french standard and mostjy provided by town Marie (Mayor) at nonimal price or free.
Arriving in St.Jean Pied de Port as before was a great experience, so many pilgrims, mostly starting their Camino the followin day.
Getting home from finish was as difficult as getting to Vezelay, had a very enjoyable stop.over with Brian, Sara and Owen in Arganda del Rey.
Now looking forward to 2015 Amsterdam to Vezelay.
Who said French were unfriendly...untrue . they were lovely and could'nt be more helpfull, EXCEPT don't ask directions !!!!
Bon Camino
A different Camino pilgrimage but unique for lovely scenic countryside and nice towns,
